George E. Lipp
George E. Lipp is President of George E. Lipp, Inc., a consulting
organisation that specialises in the Asia/Pacific region tourism
and leisure industries and has its principal office in Singapore.
He received a B.S. degree in engineering from Oregon State University
and did graduate work in accounting at the University of Oregon.
He is a Certified Public Accountant in Oregon, Hawaii and California.
Mr. Lipp was with Pannell Kerr Forster for 30 years, most recently
(i.e., from 1986 to 1989) as Managing Director of its consulting
division for Asia, based in Hong Kong. PKF is an international association
of chartered and certified public accounting firms with offices
in 75 countries. Prior to opening the Asia consulting office in
1986, he was a partner in the USA firm for 27 years based in Honolulu,
Hawaii.
Mr. Lipp has extensive experience in the Asia/Pacific region as
head of major tourism development studies for national governments
(Sri Lanka, 1967; New Caledonia, 1968; Malaysia, 1970 and 1975;
Fiji, 1972; Singapore, 1986; and Bangladesh, 1988), and local and
regional authorities (Central Australia, 1969; Sentosa Island, Singapore,
1970; India Beach Resorts, 1972; Pokhara, Nepal, 1975 and 1988;
Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory, 1976; East Coast
of Peninsular Malaysia, 1979; Far North Queensland, 1981 and 1990;
Pagan, Myanmar, 1991; Dalat, Vietnam, 1993-94).
In addition, he has assisted private entrepreneurs in site evaluation,
market and financial feasibility, and negotiations with operators
and financiers for projects throughout the Asia/Pacific region.
He is a frequent speaker at tourism related conferences throughout
the Pacific Basin and has been a quest lecturer at the School of
Travel Industry Management and East-West Centre of the University
of Hawaii.
He is a past President of the Hawaii Society of CPAs and served
two terms on the governing council of the American Institute of
CPAs. He has been active in the Pacific Asia Travel Association,
having served as a member of the Development Authority, 1974-82;
the Research Authority, 1983-86; the Development Council, 1988-89;
the Advisory Council, 1990; and the Asia Division Steering Committee,
1991-94. In 1989 he was Chairman of the Development Council and
in that capacity was a member of the PATA Executive Committee.
In addition to membership in the American Institute of CPAs, the
Hawaii Society of CPAs and PATA, he is member of the Kaneohe Yacht
Club and the Outrigger Canoe Club, both in Hawaii. He was active
in the Hawaii Visitors Bureau and the Hawaii Hotel Association from
1964 to 1986.
