Terry G. Cahill

From 1981 to 1984 Terry was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the largest ($65 million sales) domestic same-day time-critical air courier and small parcel service. Terry supervised the national sales and marketing organization, which accomplished a 30% volume increase while achieving record profits. He was also responsible for the customer service and sales order processing center. Terry also developed a unique competitive positioning strategy with a strong customer benefit that also served as the basis for more effective advertising. He successfully penetrated major new markets by establishing meaningful criteria for evaluating market potential and launched an international marketing organization, which successfully operated in seven foreign countries.

Then until 1996 Terry was the Senior Vice President of Marketing responsible for promoting group travel business and tourism to the nation's sixth largest city. He launched the Bureau’s first national major TV advertising campaign that significantly increased awareness and preference for San Diego as a desirable destination in San Diego’s largest target markets. Terry supervised national public relations and promotions programs that produced over 35,000 column inches of positive exposure in major markets in addition to two million dollars of promotional benefit from joint promotions. He developed a domestic and international travel industry sales program that significantly increased San Diego’s penetration among large tour operators producing a 12% gain in international visitors in FY96. Terry also designed and implemented a cooperative advertising program in conjunction with the bureau membership that generated over $2.3 million in additional San Diego exposure through member participation. He developed and executed a supplemental three-year marketing plan that was self-funding through incremental transient occupancy tax collections. The first year results in FY95 included a 4% increase in hotel occupancy and he was responsible for an $8 million Departmental budget.

Terry is currently at TGC International as President/CEO and sole practitioner specializing in tourism industry consulting with special emphasis on Sales & Marketing functions, funding development and long range strategic planning.
